YWCA
- Aqbet Jaber Refugee Camp Center
Aqbet
Jaber Refugee Camp Center was the first YWCA center in a refugee camp to
be established in the year 1953. This center is under the
administration of the YWCA branch of Jericho.
The main
program at this center at Aqbet Jaber is the preschool, that creates a nurturing environment where children can
play, learn, grow, and
develop. Eighty one children aged 3-5 are currently in
the preschool.
The child
identity program is another main program at the Refugee Camp Centers. It aims to build identity and self esteem through
cultural activities like drama, dabkeh (Palestinian traditional dance),
music, singing, and game playing. It addresses an important
psychological need and provides opportunities for self expression in a
safe and encouraging environment. Two groups of thirty four young girls
and boys aged 7-15 are currently enrolled in this program at the Aqbet
Jaber Center.
