Some of our Stories

2009/Jan, Mira Rizek:

"The only thing that is unique about the current war on Gaza is the place and time of the catastrophe; this changes every few years, but the target has always been the same: our children, women and families."

2008/Nov, Majdi Husseini:

"At that point, my cousin, who had been beaten up too, but not as badly as me, managed to escape and run to the closest police station. Barely catching his breath, he told them I was under attack in a nearby ally."

2008/July, Mira Rizek:

"...For those of us who forgot that East Jerusalem is occupied, I have tidings for you….. we will continue to suffer all this until the Occupation is over.  But I also hope that there still will be Palestinians in East Jerusalem to celebrate the day when the Occupation is over"...

Rana‘s Checkpoint Stories (2007-2008)

"The soldier yelled at him again and said, “You are not allowed to smile”, the guy asked “how so?” and the soldier said “You are in a terminal, you are not allowed to laugh in here!”"

Living in Beit Sahour - the traditional "Shepherds Field" town adjacent to Bethlehem - and working at the YWCA in Jerusalem, Rana Qumsiyeh has to cross checkpoints back and forth on a daily basis. She has been crossing checkpoints for over five years, and shares some of her thoughts and experiences with us. To read some of Rana‘s Checkpoint Stories, PRESS HERE.
